ferry to stradbroke islandGetting to North Stradbroke Island: Vehicular ferries run regularly from Cleveland, on the mainland, to Dunwich, on North Stradbroke Island taking 45 minutes approximately.

For details regarding the ferry times and prices please contact the relevant companies listed below or make a booking through our office at a discounted rate. Water Taxis (Stradbroke Flyer and Stradbroke Ferries) both operate from Cleveland and take approximately 25 minutes to reach Dunwich.

Water Taxis are met by the local bus company which takes visitors to Dunwich, Amity Point and Point Lookout.  The Stradbroke Flyer arrives at One Mile Jetty and Stradbroke Ferries at Dunwich Jetty.

The vehicle ferries (Stradbroke Ferries and Sea Stradbroke Big Red Cat) that operate from Cleveland take approximately 45 minutes to arrive at the island.  Both vehicle ferry companies arrive at the Dunwich boat ramps.  The drive from Dunwich to Point Lookout takes approximately 15 minutes on a sealed road, making the total travel time 1 hour. We can make vehicular ferry bookings on your behalf at a discounted rate.

It is important to check departure times for both vehicular ferry and water taxi as they do not run late into the evening.  The latest vehicular ferry departs Cleveland at 1900 hours daily.  There is no bus service connecting with vehicular ferries and a limited taxi service on North Stradbroke Island in the evenings.  If you are planning a trip without bringing a vehicle you should contact our office so that we can pick you up from the bus stop as we are high on the hill and not on the bus route.

If you are arriving outside normal daylight hours we would recommend a taxi from the airport to Cleveland (approximate cost is $80.00), airport pick-up through Cleveland Auto Rentals costing $50.00 (0734880558) or alternatively there is a train connection from the airport to Brisbane (see http://www.airtrain.com.au) where connections to Cleveland can be made.  A shuttle bus operates between Cleveland train station and the ferry terminal.  If you are arriving by road, Cleveland is well signposted from all major routes.

All townships on the island are linked by bitumen roads.  A 4WD is required for driving on beaches and inland tracks.  A permit is required for beach driving and is available from Stradbroke Tourism, the ferry companies and also several outlets on North Stradbroke Island.  At present the permit costs A$34.00 for 12 months.  It is recommended to come with a car or 4WD so that you can fully explore and enjoy what North Stradbroke Island has to offer.
